Kano minimum wage committee to submit final report by year end
Kano state minimum wage implementation committee says it will submit its final report before January 2020.
WudilOnline recalls that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has agreed to pay N30,600 as minimum wage but constituted a committee to determine the consequential increment for all categories of state employees.
The committee has representatives from Kano state government, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Public Service Negotiation Council (JNC).
In an exclusive interview with KANO FOCUS, Kano state chairman of Joint Public Service Negotiation Council, Hashim Sale said a technical subcommittee will submit a new salary table for all categories of workers to the main committee this week.
Mr Sale said JNC will study the new minimum wage and consequential increment to workers on grades 7-17 and call a stakeholders meeting before signing an agreement with government representatives.
Ganduje to pay new minimum wage arrears
He however assured that the process would be completed before January 2020 as directed by the NLC.
He said the NLC had given the deadline at a December 11 meeting with all state chairmen of JNC and NLC.
Mr Sale said Kano state has fallen into second category of states that showed commitment by constituting a committee to negotiate with workers on implementing the new minimum wage.
The chairman added that the most interesting thing, is that Kano state government has agreed to pay arrears of the new minimum wage from April, 2019.
